Martin Jack, one of our alumni (MLitt Publishing Studies, 2009) is off to head up Taylor and Francis’ Asia online sales operations from our Singapore office from April this year. His departure leaves a position open at T&F’s Abingdon offices. Deadline: 11th March, 2011.

The chosen candidate would be responsible for the UK market primarily and there is potential for expansion of territorial responsibility depending on their skill-set. Customers would primarily be university libraries purchasing both institutional licences for our eBook platforms (Taylor and Francis eBooks and CRC netbases) and online reference resources (Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy Online, Europa products, etc) and the person would be responsible for making new sales and renewing existing business. Claire Squires at the World Book Summit 2011

Claire Squires, Director of Stirling Centre of International Publishing and Communication, has been asked to speak at the forthcoming World Book Summit 2011 in Ljubljana, Slovenia in March.

She will be appearing alongside speakers including Francis Galloway, Roger D Sell, Rudiger Wischenbart and Mike Shatzkin. The Summit will discuss current issues in the publishing industry, including electronic and print books, changing business models in publishing, state subsidy in publishing, digital reading, and translation and cultural exchange.

She will also be promoting the Slovene-language edition of her book Marketing Literature: The Making of Contemporary Writing in Britain, which has just been published in Slovenia.

The Stationers’ Company is offering scholarships for students currently undertaking, or planning to undertake, progammes of study including publishing degree courses. Students on courses at Stirling have been successful in past years at winning these prestigious scholarships, including a student on our MLitt in Publishing Studies in 2009-10.

For more information on the scholarships available, including the Major Awards, which have averaged £2000 in recent years. Major Awards are offered annually for young people who are residents of the UK and who must be under the age of 25 on 1st May in that year. The deadline for Major Scholarships is 30 January 2011.
